Das 24h-Rennen wird von der ersten Runde an spannend: Nach zwei VLN-Rennen und dem 24h-Qualirennen sind von den 30 verfügbaren Plätzen im Einzelzeitfahren nur noch 13 Plätze zu haben: Sie werden mit den Teams aufgefüllt, die sich in den ersten beiden Qualifyings beim ADAC Zurich 24h-Rennen (Donnerstagabend bzw. Freitagmorgen) entsprechend weit vorne qualifizieren. Beim Top-30-Qualifying werden dann am Freitagabend ab 19:50 Uhr die Plätze in den ersten 15 Startreihen vergeben.

So funktioniert es: Regeln für die Startplatzvergabe kompakt erklärt
Die Vergabe der Startplätze erfolgt nach einem bewährten Schema: Die jeweils vier Schnellsten der Qualifyings bei den zwei VLN-Läufen vor dem 24h-Rennen können sich ebenso ihren Startplatz sichern wie die zehn bestplatzierten Fahrzeuge aus dem Zeittraining beim 24h-Qualirennen. Fünf weitere Plätze werden an die ersten Fünf des Qualirennens vergeben. In den Zeittrainings beim 24h-Rennen werden dann alle bis dahin noch nicht besetzten Startplätze aufgefüllt. Dass traditionell einige der vorab zu vergebenden Startplätze frei bleiben, liegt an den Voraussetzungen für die Qualifikation: Die Teams müssen ihre Fahrzeuge vorab registriert haben, und die Top-30-Qualifikation bezieht sich auf die Kombination von Fahrer, Team, Fahrzeugtyp und Klasse. Sprich: Ein Pilot kann seinem Fahrzeug nur dann einen Top-30-Startplatz sichern, wenn er auf diesem Fahrzeug (und mit diesem Team) auch beim 24h-Rennen antritt.
