Mario Fuchs claims RCN victory

  • Fuchs dominates in conditions made for all-wheel drive
  • 152 entrants kick off the long motorsport weekend
  • Reimer/Schneider successfully defend championship lead

In difficult and ever-changing conditions, the Mitsubishi dealer from Grafschaft kept the competition under control with his self-developed car. Driving a very rare Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution estate featuring all-wheel drive and more than 350 hp, the experienced Eifel racer proved untouchable throughout the event.

Traditionally, the Rundstrecken-Challenge Nürburgring kicks off the racing action of the Nürburgring’s longest weekend of the year with its unique mix of consistency laps and sprint laps against the clock.

“The weather definitely played into my hands today and I’m glad that I was able to make the most of the conditions,” said Fuchs after the session. David Vogt finished second overall in his front-wheel-drive Opel Astra TCR: “Unfortunately, I didn’t stand a chance. Mario wasn’t just technically superior today—he was unbeatable behind the wheel as well.”

In the championship battle, Jens Schneider and Robin Reimer successfully extended their lead after securing their second win of the season in only the second race, driving the BMW 325i E90. Reimer summed it up: “Ultimately, we only took the risks necessary to defend our lead in the class. Given the changeable conditions, we didn’t want to take any unnecessary risks.”

The next round of the Rundstrecken-Challenge Nürburgring will take place in just two weeks, on the final weekend of May.
